A burn permit is required if you reside within the City of Ammon limits, see application below. For those residing in the County, outside City of Ammon limits, please call Non-Emergency Dispatch at (208) 529-1200, to start and stop a controlled burn.
In accordance with the most currently adopted edition of the International Fire Code, Section 307;
General: A person shall not kindle or maintain or authorize to be kindled or maintained, any open burning unless conducted and approved in accordance with this permit. A permit is not required for a recreational fire so long as it meets all specifications listed in the Fire Code. Prohibited Open Burning: Open burning shall be prohibited when atmospheric conditions or local circumstances make such fires hazardous. Permit Required: A permit shall be obtained from the Fire Code Official prior to kindling a fire for recognized silvicultural or range or wildlife management practices, prevention or control of disease or pests, or a bonfire. Application for such approval shall only be presented by and permits issued to the owner of the land upon which the fire is to be kindled.
The following conditions shall be adhered to completely. Failure to do so may result in the issuance of a fine by the Fire Chief or his designated representative (designee) from the Bonneville County Fire District 1 (BCFD1). This fine is not to exceed $300.00 for each offense.
- This permit is valid for seven (7) days; the permit holder (PH) must contact the permit issuer at (208) 612-4011 for additional extensions.
- Controlled burning (CB) must be at least 50 ft. away from any building or structure, including fences.
- The Responsible Party (RP) and PH must notify BCFD1 at (208) 948-6526 before starting a CB.
- If you feel the fire is “out of control” at any time, Call 9-1-1 immediately!
- All CB must be conducted during daylight hours only.
- All CB are prohibited when wind speed exceeds ten (10) mph.
- PH must comply with all issued burn ban periods by BCFD1.
- When all burning is finished, the RP must notify BCFD1, at (208) 948-6526, that the CB is complete.

- All CB must be attended at all times; unattended burning shall be grounds for permit revocation and the “CB” will be extinguished.
- Burning materials that cause dense smoke, offensive odors, or nuisance, i.e. garbage, rubber/tires, plastic, items containing plastic or rubber, animal waste, hay, straw, grass clippings, oil, paint, painted or treated wood (including railroad ties), are strictly prohibited within the City of Ammon (CoA).
- NOTE: The Fire Chief or his designee is authorized to determine materials as non-compliant if called to investigate a potential nuisance or hazardous situation and can require any open burning to be extinguished if it is determined to be non-compliant.
- Only materials from the property of the permit holder can be burned.
- A garden hose connected to a water supply or other fire extinguishing equipment must be readily available during the CB period.
